Merzbow & Balázs Pándi to play at Skaņu Mežs 2017

In 2017, Skaņu Mežs will celebrate its 15th anniversary. The festival will take place at the music house “Daile” on October 13th and 14th with an opening event on October 6 at the art museum Riga Bourse. The first announced act of this festival edition is the duo of Merzbow, the Japanese noise musician, held as one of the most important artists in the field, and Balázs Pándi, a drummer active in experimental metal, noise and free jazz. They will play on October 14.

Folk singer Stu Larsen will perform in Riga coming fall

On September 28th an Australian singer, songwriter and folk musician Stu Larsen will perform at Latvian 1st Rock Cafe (Riga, Marstalu 2/4). It will be his first time in Latvia and this concert is to support his brand new album Resolute (to be released on July 21st). The previous, his debut album, is called Vagabond and was released in 2014. A relevant role in its making, record and producing took his friend, a romantic British singer songwriter Passenger, also known as Michael Rosenberg. It’s worth mentioning that Passenger show in Riga last fall was completely sold out.

Fink will perform in Latvia for the first time

British Folk-Rock, Blues and Indie band “Fink” will perform in Riga on Friday, 29th of September in concert hall Palladium. May 22nd is the day when the British singer and songwriter Mika will perform a concert in Arena Riga as a part of his promotional tour of his latest album No Place in Heaven. Mika whose real name is Michael Holbrook Penniman, Jr. is a Lebanese-born British singer and songwriter. He started his music career in 2007 with mindblowing success by selling his debut single Grace Kelly in more than 3 million copies. For five weeks it was number one on the UK Singles Chart and had similar success on music charts of 6 other countries. Here in Latvia situation was slightly different where the single needed to compete with other top hits of the same album, for example, songs like Relax (Take It Easy), Lollipop and Big Girl (You Are Beautiful).
His debut album Life in Cartoon Motion, which was number 1 in the UK and in other 11 countries, was sold in more than 7 million copies. It is truly impressive success in the nowadays, so rapidly changing era.  
In 2009 Mika released the 2nd studio album The Boy Who Knew Too Much that continued a path of success and was one of top 10 albums in at least ten countries. The most well-known songs of this album are We Are Golden, Blame It On The Girls and Rain.
His third studio album The Origin of Love was released in 2012. The songs that earned international recognition were Celebrate featuring Pharrell Williams and Popular Song featuring Ariana Grande.
In June of 2015 Mika released his 4th studio album No Place in Heaven, from which the most popular song so far is Talk About You.
During his career he has sold more than 10 million copies of his albums and therefore has earned Golden or even Platinum status in 32 countries. He has been nominated for and received numerous prestige awards such as Brit Award and MTV Europe.
Sometimes Mika is compared to artists like legendary Freddie Mercury, extravagant Elton John and american glampop stars Scissor Sisters.
