Legendary Violinist Nigel Kennedy to Perform in Dzintari for the First Time
On July 5, a unique and grand event is set to take place in Latvia’s cultural life — the legendary British musical genius Nigel Kennedy, one of the world’s most dazzling and unconventional violinists, will perform in Latvia for the very first time at the DzintariConcert Hall in Jūrmala with a special program titled The Real Deal. That evening, accompanied by a string orchestra and specially invited guest performers, Kennedy will present his original interpretation of Antonio Vivaldi’s iconic cycle The Four Seasons, along with variations on music by Japanese composer and Oscar-winner Ryuichi Sakamoto.
“It will be a grand, emotionally charged experience — a true fusion of art and audience, the spirit of a genuine connection — The Real Deal,” say the concert organizers.
Kennedy rose to international fame with his revolutionary interpretation of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, which became one of the best-selling classical albums in the world following its 1989 release — selling over 3.5 million copies and earning a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
The artist is a multiple Brit Award winner and has received the Gramophone Award for “Recording of the Year.” His exceptional musical journey includes collaborations with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, conductors André Previn and Sir Simon Rattle, and many other world-renowned artists and orchestras.
Nigel Kennedy plays a unique 1736 Guarneri del Gesù violin — an instrument reserved for the greatest masters in history. He studied under the legendary American violinist Yehudi Menuhin and under Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in New York, receiving truly outstanding musical training. His interpretations of works by Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Sibelius have become modern benchmarks.
Kennedy’s career is marked by bold genre-crossing. In the 1990s, he turned to the music of Jimi Hendrix, creating projects such as Kafka and Hendrix Concerto, thus redefining the potential of the violin in contemporary music. He is also a recipient of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), one of the highest honors in the United Kingdom for contributions to the arts.
Tickets for the concert are available at “Biļešu Serviss” box offices and online at: www.bilesuserviss.lv
