Trip-hop pioneer Tricky announces a concert in Vilnius

British trip-hop legend Tricky returns to Vilnius this September.

On 2 September, Tricky will present his new album “Different When It’s Silent” at Kablys. Both Tricky and the venue have deep roots in underground culture, making it a perfect match. Vilnius is one of the latest additions to his extensive European tour.

Tricky’s music is dark, hypnotic and instantly recognisable. He is one of the most important figures in the British underground and played a key role in the birth of trip-hop.

Collaborations have always been central to his career. Tricky has worked with artists including Massive Attack, Björk, Neneh Cherry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cyndi Lauper, Ed Kowalczyk, Alanis Morissette, Nneka, Elvis Costello, Peter Doherty, PJ Harvey, Grace Jones, Yoko Ono and Martina Topley-Bird. Over the years, he has changed creative direction, cities, sounds, formats and collaborators, yet has always remained unmistakably himself.

Although Tricky’s name is inseparable from the history of trip-hop, he has no interest in recreating “Maxinquaye”. Today, he is focused on his own label False Idols and a trusted circle of collaborators.

Onstage Tricky will be joined by drummer Velroy John Bailey, keyboardist Ross Daniel Barnes, guitarist Marion Kallikorm, vocalists Mitchell Lee Sanders and Marta Złakowska.

Polish vocalist Marta Złakowska is the tour’s special guest. In recent years, she has become one of Tricky’s most important creative partners. Her delicate, intimate voice subtly complements his dark sound. Their 2025 collaborative album, “Out the Way”, was praised by critics as one of Tricky’s strongest recent works. It established their partnership as more than a one-off experiment, revealing a distinct creative direction of its own.

Album “Different When It’s Silent”

“Different When It’s Silent” is Tricky’s fifteenth studio album and his first release under his own name in six years. The reason for the long break is deeply personal and painful: the sudden death of his daughter.

“When my daughter died, I felt a strong need to work even harder. But all the media attention, publicity, marketing and everything else that comes with releasing an album… After Mina Mazy’s death, I simply didn’t have the strength for it. I was never a mainstream star, but what happened made me retreat even further into the background,” says Tricky. The album is filled with grief, yet also carries a powerful sense of life. “I’m singing to my daughter,” Tricky says of its closing track, “Out Of Place”.

There is a heartbreaking parallel between this album and his debut. “Maxinquaye” was a tribute to his mother, who took her own life, while “Different When It’s Silent” is dedicated to his late daughter. Between these two records lie three decades of music, personal change and intense life experiences.

“I’m ready to live again. For a while, I was emotionally paralysed. Now I’m moving forward. I’m really looking forward to this extensive tour. I want to be back onstage. I’m grateful that I can make music,” says Tricky, who seems to have found a way through unbearable pain with the help of music.

Tricky remains one of the most influential voices in British music and nothing can take that away from him.
