British musical aesthetes The Cinematic Orchestra announce a concert in Vilnius

British group The Cinematic Orchestra known for blending contemporary jazz with electronic music are coming to Vilnius. The only show in the Baltics! 

“A brief escape from the studio where we are currently working on a new album,” The Cinematic Orchestra say of their upcoming European shows. The group recently welcomed several new members who will also be coming to Vilnius. On stage will be group founder Jason Swinscoe, keyboardist Al MacSween, drummer Ellis Dupuy and bassist Vini Cajado.

At their concerts, sound and visuals come together to create a deeply cinematic experience. “Tasteful electronica,” writes The Guardian. NME describes The Cinematic Orchestra as elegant, intelligent and deeply emotional, while Pitchfork simply calls them majestic. 

For more than two decades, The Cinematic Orchestra have created a unique sound somewhere between jazz and electronic music. Led by Jason Swinscoe, the group brings together accomplished musicians who draw on jazz traditions and interpret them in their own way.

The Cinematic Orchestra have inspired many celebrated contemporary artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Sons of Kemet, BADBADNOTGOOD, Floating Points and Ólafur Arnalds. The group helped lead many of them towards modern jazz and became a major source of inspiration.

The Cinematic Orchestra have performed at prestigious venues around the world, selling out London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris, Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica and the Sydney Opera House.

Their compositions unfold slowly, layer by layer, allowing listeners to sink into a particular mood. Sound becomes the storyteller.

The Cinematic Orchestra: Masters of the Soundtracks

Soundtracks play an important role in the group’s work. They have created music for films including Dziga Vertov’s “Man with a Movie Camera” and Disney’s documentary “The Crimson Wing”. The latter features their track “Arrival of the Birds”, which was later used in James Marsh’s Oscar-winning film “The Theory of Everything”.

The Cinematic Orchestra stands out in the world of film music for the way they combine live instruments with electronic sounds. Their music fits the moving image naturally. Instead of simply repeating what is already happening on screen their soundtracks add another layer to the story.

The Cinematic Orchestra are currently working on new music. After a long break, they have announced concerts in just five cities: Hamburg, Istanbul, Düsseldorf, Sofia and Vilnius. Their last Vilnius show in 2019 became one of the most memorable concerts of the season.
