NEW NAMES ADDED TO POSITIVUS PROGRAMME

New additions to the Positivus festival programme feature one of the most notable alternative British hip-hop artists Tricky, the legendary saxophone player Pharaoh Sanders and band, as well as the prominent Latvian Blues Band with special guest, the rising Nigerian soul star Justina Lee Brown. Baltic’s biggest pop music festival will take place from July 18-20 in Salacgrīva, Latvia.

The British alternative hip-hop artist Tricky, known for his half-rapped, half-sung asthmatic whispering lyrical style, has been one of the most innovative genre performers since the mid-90’s, as well as a Mercury Award nominee. He has remixed artists as diverse as Elvis Costello, Garbage, Yoko Ono and Bush, and was a member of Massive Attack. Having become a real legend during the span of his career, Tricky blurs the normal definitions of hip-hop by blending elements of varying types of music. This Positivus appearance is highly anticipated by those who appreciate the music of Massive Attack and Portishead.

Pharoah Sanders is "probably the best tenor player in the world" according to living saxophone legend Ornette Coleman. Emerging from John Coltrane's mid-1960s groups, Sanders embarked on a solo career in the 70s and has remained one of the most important figures in the development of free jazz since.

This year Positivus festival will welcome its first African performer - one of the most promising new jazz and r’n’b talents, the Nigerian singer Justina Lee Brown who will perform with one of the most globally renowned Latvian bands - Latvian Blues Band. Justina is famous for her powerful and wide-ranging vocals, which are best witnessed during a live performance, where the singer skilfully mixes up soul, jazz and r’n’b. During the span of their career, Latvian Blues Band have performed alongside the world’s biggest blues acts, embarked on countless global tours and have been generally making world-class music since 1997.

The festival 3 day ticket without camping currently costs EUR 57 and a 3 day ticket with camping costs EUR 63. Ticket prices are set to increase.
